I cut recap videos for the LMU Athletics Department. It's a lot of fun and I enjoy the work. I go through footage and select some of the best plays that encapsulate how a game went. Each week I transform a dramatic 60 minute game into a short compelling 2 minute clip.
Narrative films are a lot of fun to cut especially when a dramatic fight sequence is involved. In this example there is no dialogue so the pacing and timing of each cut I make is of the utmost importance. Each cut conveys an important bit of information about a complex story, it's my job to help it all make sense.
This is a project in which I've used the same footage and cut it in three distinctly different ways. In this example I've cut the scene in such a way that it will give the viewer the impression her boss hates her and in the second example she will hate him. The final example I use the same footage to depict her as if she is in love with him.
In this example, I've cut together a sequence of shots to tell a thrilling story about a character experiencing a bad dream. I designed this sequence to create tension on screen and excitement in the viewer.
For this film we wanted to convey emotion and give the viewer a sense of the dramatic tension in this story. In the trailer I've compressed information in time using a J or an L cut. Audio or video from a separate clip overlapping one another to compress time.
